On Saturday March 27, I got the rear wheel assembly finished. My brother Lynn's
friend Craig Hubler, owner of Sand City Sculpture graciously agreed to do the
necessary welding at his shop.
Here's Craig welding the uprights to the frame. We decided to go with welds rather
than bolts for structural strength reasons. You'll see why later.
Welding the uprights.
Attaching the gusset braces.
And here's the frame, almost finished:
Here's a video showing how the wheel frame is used.
The frame is attached to the wheelbarrow handles with quick-release pins that
also act as pivot points.
To engage the wheels, I pull back on the handle, and this rotates the frame so
that the casters roll forward until they're in a vertical position. Simultaneously,
the rear of the scope is raised up so that the front wheels touch the ground, and
the ground board of the scope is lifted off the ground. I then put a pin into the
handle to hold the frame in place, and I wheel it off!
